My computer wont boot and I cant hear the hard drive.... ?

The size of the hard drive doesn't make the difference for compatibility. IDE or PATA is a long ribbon cable, while SATA is a much smaller cable. You can use the SATA hard drive if you also get a IDE to SATA converter cable.
